Through constant monitoring of both student and industry trends, it became very apparent by 2012 that a course in Social Media Marketing was needed. A  joint effort between the Writing Center (Francis Acland), Graphic Design (Zane Vredenburg) and the Sandage School of Business (Jeff McElroy) developed the first Social Media Marketing class for spring of 2013. The class was successful in attracting students and by 2015 as industry and student demand increased, a major in Social Media Marketing was developed through a joint effort between Graphic Design (Zane Vredenburg), Communications (Brian White) and the Sandage School of Business (Jeff McElroy) enabling Graceland to be one of the few universities in the country to have this popular major.
